The Game
The name is derived from the oft-quoted phrase when a player turns up a high spade in the course of building a poker hand.
The Deal
As in Night Baseball; 7 cards all face down.
The Play
As in
Night Baseball
, each player begins flipping their cards over one at a time until they have beaten the best hand. 3’s and 9’s are wild for the cost of an ante. No extra cards are given for a turned 4. On their turn, each player has the option of standing pat on their unturned hand; they must continue to bet in turn, but do not turn cards for the rest of the game. If a player has turned all cards, but does not have the highest hand, they must fold.
Ending the Game
Play continues clockwise until all players are folded, high hand, or standing on unturned cards. This usually results in several unturned cards left on the table; the player with the highest spade unturned splits the pot with the high hand.
Irregularities
It is possible for the player with the highest poker hand to also have the highest spade down. The player lucky enough to have this happen sweeps the pot.
